What happens here?

the picture "wants to grow" and I am adding some canvas. 

I am in a good company, this practice is fairly common; even Titian's last work, Pieta, has pieces of canvas sewn to it.

It is, however, not an easy decision and it requires some pluck to sew a wet canvas!
